Karen Hatcher, General Manager of the College of Piping, was our guest speaker for the September 1 meeting.
Karen did a great presentation, informing club members of the programs that the College of Piping offers, the teaching staff and the three teaching locations - Summerside, Charlottetown and Cornwall.

Each year a different PEI Rotary club is responsible for entering the Rotary float in the Gold Cup Parade. This year, it was the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty's turn.

The theme of the parade this year was "The ABCs". 'R' is for Rotary.

This year participants in the Special Olympics road on the float for the parade, and a special guest (besides Sunny the Clown) had his picture taken sitting on the float - Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Two or three times a year the breakfast meeting of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty is held in an alternate location. For the August 11 meeting club members were treated to a wonderful breakfast at the York Community Hall, put on by the Women's Institute.

....... Vesey's Seeds Trial Gardens, where we toured around the flower, fruit and vegetable trial seed gardens. Vesey's Seeds is owned by Rotarian Bev Simpson.

Mary Hickey, partner of Rotarian Paul Hickey, is spending a year teaching in Nyamata, Rwanda.
Mary is a CUSO/VSO volunteer, and received some funding for teaching supplies from our club.

It is always good to see former Rotary Youth Exchange Students return for a visit. On July 28, Sophie Olsen from Denmark, our club's 2008-09 exchange student visited Charlottetown and brought her parents along to a club meeting.
