Guest speaker at our February 22 meeting was His Worship, Mayor Clifford Lee of Charlottetown. Mayor Lee gave an update of development projects in the city.

Sr. Noreen MacDonald (left) is an honourary member of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty. She has been living in Cameroon for a number of years and is involved in educational and community development projects there, with financial support from our club.

 

       
Shelterbox assembly    

Rotarians Paul Hickey and Gord Harper assembled a display shelterbox tent at the Culinary Institute for a Holland College fundraising dinner.

 

The event raised enough money to sponser 17 shelterboxes!

Shelterbox dismantling    

How many Rotarians does it take to dismantle a shelterbox? Actually assembly and dismantling of shelterboxes is quite easy. Four made it go faster, but one or two could easily do the job.

Shelter Box    

Rotarian Gordon Harper, right, District 7820 chairperson of the Shelterbox Canada committee, presented a plaque to President John Barrett in honour of the club's donation of 22 shelterboxes over the past three years. Five of the boxes were donated recently to aid victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Paul Hickey    

At the Feb. 3, 2010 meeting, Rotarian Paul Hickey, Chairperson of the World Community Services committee, shown here wearing traditional Nigerian clothing, and members of his committee gave club members an update on the activities of the committee.

 

Some of the projects being carried out include KI VA (an organization that gives out loans in underdeveloped nations), a water project in India, Heal Africa, Dr. Chandra Eye Hospital in India, the Good Hope Orphanage, Shelterbox, School construction in Cameroon, Farmers Helping Farmers and Bicycles for Humanity.

 

       
Hon. George Tweedy Award    

The Hon. George Tweedy Award is presented each year at the Annual Premier's Dinner and Fellowship Event to an Island Rotarian who has shown exceptional dedication to Rotary and the Island community.

 

This year's award went to Past District Governor and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty, Tom Willkinson.

 

Shown presenting the award is Gordon Tweedy, son of the late Hon. George Tweedy, and Charlotte Comrie, President of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown.

       
Official Opening of QCRS Facility    

The Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty gave a donation to Queens County Residential Services to assist in construction of a new facility that will house residents with physical and mental disabilities.
